The ‘You What!’ Trophy had been presented to the County by former International Umpire and Middlesex Vice President Maureen Hyam and her late husband, Dick, to be awarded to umpires who have supported Middlesex in any way.

2009: Amber Buchan. Amber has worked hard to successfully gain their A Award, has umpired at National Events and is a mentor, tester, tutor and fine role model for other umpires.  For personal achievement and commitment to all aspects of umpiring in Middlesex.

2008: no award  

2007: Amber Buchan.  Amber has worked hard to achieve her B award, is continuing to work for the A award, has umpired at National Events and is C award mentor and tester.  She has been working with the umpiring sub group to raise the profile of umpiring in the County and plans to increase the number of testers and tutors available to support umpiring development in Middlesex.

The County Cup had previously been presented to a County team/squad for success or endeavour.  Since we no longer have County squads, the Committee decided that, in future the Cup would be presented to a Middlesex County Club or team.

2009: Presented for achievement, support of talent, the development of young players and commitment to their membership, the award this year was presented to Minchenden Netball Club.

2008: The award went to Cumberland Netball Club for their achievements in winning both the County League (and gaining promotion to the Regional League) and the England Netball Challenge Plate, supporting talent and the development of young players, also in recognition for their work in their local netball community. 2007: For achievement at all levels (which included winning the Premier National League Division 1), supporting talent and the development of young players, the Cup was awarded to Academy Netball Club.

The Goalden Globes - All nine England Netball Regions will choose a Regional winner from each of the 10 competitive categories. 2009: London and South East Regional Winners from Middlesex:

Lucy Mitchell – Young Volunteer Award. Over the last 4 years, Lucy has qualified as a B Award and A Award Umpire. She has attended England Netball Officiating Conferences in the last 2 years and then briefed club and other umpires on the key issues. Lucy has worked to improve her abilities by umpiring at all levels: Netball Europe, Premier and Regional League games as well as U13 games in her local League. She has served to enthuse and inspire members of the junior section.

Lucy has just completed her first year as a teacher but has still found time to update her EN Level 2 coaching qualification to UKCC standard. Her commitment has recently extended beyond her club to the large North London League, where Lucy has taken on the role of secretary. Lucy has been described by her peers as highly committed and inspirational.

Brenda Horn – Mary Bulloch Administrator Award. Brenda founded Townmead NC forty years ago and is still involved in running a team. She has been a Committee member for Harlington Netball League since the League was formed some 12 or more years ago. Furthermore she has been Middlesex County Treasurer and Affiliations Secretary for over 6 years and has sat on the Finance Group for the London and South East Region and has been Venue Coordinator and sat on the Administration Group for the Middlesex County Netball League.

Brenda’s efficiency, organisation and personality have contributed to the popularity of the Harlington Midweek League, resulting in a steady increase in participation and retention. Her excellent management of County finances has recently allowed clubs to be financially supported in their development projects. She is a genuine volunteer, whose enthusiasm for Netball, its organisation and development, is infectious. Her knowledge and understanding of Grassroots Netball is deep and willingly shared. Her dedication is unquestionable.

2008: The award for “Young Volunteer of the Year” at the Goalden Globes went to Emma Groundwater of the West London Junior Netball League.

Emma was a pupil at Drayton Manor High School, played for the Middx Under 16s and Academy. Over the past two seasons the 18-year-old has coached the U12 and U16 teams and also carries out extra duties in her free time and is an elected member of the West London Junior League Committee.

Sonia Taylor won the London & South East “Coach of the Year” and went forward as the nominee for the Goalden Globes but missed out to Maggie Jackson who won the Super League Final with Mavericks. Sonia coached Academy to victory with back to back Challenge Cup Finals and is now Assistant Coach with Brunel Hurricanes.
